A game jam is a hackathon for video games. It is a gathering of people for the purpose of planning, designing, and creating one or more games within a short span of time, in this case 48 hours.
Participants either arrive in groups or find new teammates on site. Game jams usually run under a specific theme, which is announced when the jam starts. The participants are free to work whichever way they want; the games are usually in a prototype state when the jam is over. In the end, every team has the chance to present their game to the other jammers and an interested audience. After the final presentations the games are exhibited and playable.
